Friday, May 22nd French Movie Day Chellenge
rYou can choose whichever movie you prefer.
I however have a suggestion :) which is MOANA ! Moana is actually not named Moana in the French version but Vaiana.
As a big Disney Fan, I know all the Disney songs in French, but Moana is the only Disney I really love both French and English version. I think the songs in both versions are so so cool and that would be fun if your student could watch it in French!
If you cannot watch the movie, here are my favorite Vaiana songs in French! Let me know what you think about it!

WEEK FROM MAY 11TH TO MAY 15TH
|
ABOUT THIS WEEK
- Make-Up assessment day is on Monday instead of Friday - I reduced the amount of work for this week, I appreciate your feedback on the amount of work every week, it does really help me to target your needs week after week. So this week, besides the math and the Taoki reading, the rest will be a cooking video to watch. This video has a cultural aspect regarding French culture, I will explain below why ;) - Don't hesitate to contact me if you are having hard time at home to find different strategies to keep your student engaged after so many weeks of distance learning. I am available though mail, Bloomz text, but I would also be happy to give you a phone call if needed. Additional informations - I do not have any additional material in my classroom that belong to your student. The Taoki exercise workbook will stay at school and your student will use it next year with the 2nd grade teacher. - END OF THE YEAR REVERSE PARADE: Friday May 22nd starting at 10:30 : Morningside faculty will stand along the south and east fence lines and wave to students and parents as they will drive by in their cars |

FRENCH COOKING: THE YOGHURT CAKE
"LE GATEAU AU YAOURT"
"LE GATEAU AU YAOURT"
This cake is one of the most emblematic family French cuisine recipe. I did it with my mother, my grandmother, I will do it with my kids one day. It was my after school snack.
The recipe is super easy to remember and extremely easy to do with kids.
Why is it called "YOGURT" cake? Because instead of using cups or another unit, we use a yoghurt cup as measurement.
The video you will see is made by another 1st grade French Dual Immersion Teacher and friend of mine, Mrs Sofiane Auvray. So it is French Beginners friendly.
It is not at all mandatory to cook this at home this week, but if you do, please share with me and the classroom your cake on FLIPGRID ----> HERE <----
Notes:
-In the video, Mrs Auvray uses a strawberry yoghurt, you can use a vanilla one, or a lemon one, etc....
- She uses a round mould but you can use a rectangular one
- Enjoy :)

WEEK FROM MAY 4TH TO MAY 8TH
|
ABOUT THIS WEEK:
- Thank you so much for your feedback on my latest survey, it allowed me to bring the proper modifications to the schedule to have it closest to your needs. What the survey outlined and what I adapted: * You do not feel the need for more zoom parents meetings in May, which is why I did not plan any. * The amount of work is right and you really appreciate the "Friday make-up day", you mentioned that the amount of math was a little heavy in April * You prefer using flipgrid than having students zoom meetings * You prefer not to have to download finished work but simply check-in what has been done. About the morning rituals I change the activities to bring more diversity, now our morning rituals will be about decomposing a number (more precisions below) |

ABOUT THIS WEEK
- FRIDAY 24TH, Mrs Squires and I decided that we will offer a "make-up" day to parents. This day is exclusively planned to catch up on work, review or just relax. On my hand, I do not plan any mandatory activities, however I propose to the families who want to, to review the topic 15 in order to prepare for the coming assessment on Monday 27TH. - Every Zoom meeting is protected by a password shared with only the parents through a secured platform in which every identity is checked. - Our classroom FlipGrid is also protected by a password. If you need it, DM me on our communication secured platform (Bloomz). I also share this password on the Bloomz post in which I share the work for the week (sometimes you might have to scroll down on Bloomz until you find my post because other post have been added in the meantime). - This calendar can be modified through the weeks, please make sure to refer to its most recent update. - Monday morning parents meeting: I will introduce the weekly work and talk about how to use your Friday make-up day and how to adapt the work in general (I feel like this topic need to be a little more talked about). I do not record meetings. |

DOWNLOAD THE WORK FROM APRIL 20TH TO APRIL 24TH HERE
- This form will accept responses from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th (each week work is checked at the end of the week, it opens on Friday and close on the Sunday).
- We do NOT check the work day by day, but all in once at the end of the week. You have Friday, Saturday and Sunday to check the work done during the week. -It is SUPER EASY and fast to take a picture, and download it from your phone on the form (I just tried and did it). -Keep all the work of your child, classified week per week. -If all the work is overwhelming, focus on the math mandatory. And the rest is adaptable (either do not do it, or just watch the videos, or do one or few questions) |
Please take note of these informations
What does NOT change: -Every Friday I will open the google form for you to check and download the work of your student. - On this form you will be able to check, by selecting the work that has been completed through the week -You can download the work either by scanning it or by taking a picture of it. What CHANGE: - There will be no longer place to download the Taoki, Ritual, and French/Science activity work. - Only 3 to 4 pages MAXIMUM will be to download for each day. These pages correspond to the mandatory Math work from the French copy book ONLY. - You will be guided and will know exactly what pages to download on each day - This will be required for me to be able to keep track of the student work and to be prepared of the eventuality for me to have to give a grade for quarter 4 (we will know more about this in the coming week) |

5 WEEKS AT A GLANCE CALENDAR (MODIFIED VERSION)
Notes:
- This calendar is a draft that I might modify through the weeks
- When you see "Math 6-1" means "Math topic 6 lesson 1" (you can read these references the bottom and on the top of the math lessons)
-If you are wondering why we work now on the topic 6 it is because this topic was programmed by our GSD standards for the last quarter.
- There is a day by day schedule for math and rituals.
You can choose when you want to conduct the TAOKI reading/letter recognition and clothes name sessions.

MATHEMATIQUES
TOPIC 14 is about recognising 2D shapes, what defines them and their names.
You are invited to work on the French version that you can pick up at school on Monday (and help yourself with the english version like we are use to do with homework), or to work on the english version that you can print at home.
About extra work: students will have pages from the math copy book (the homework pages that you know), and other pages where the student could either print out, or look at from a computer/tablet/phone and write the answers on a separate page (sometimes the activity will require to color/circle on the page, at this moment, saying/pointing the right answer to the parent is a possibility)
ALL THE MATH WORK WILL BE ACCESSIBLE FOR YOU PARENTS IN ENGLISH ON THIS WEBSITE
